Whole Building Systems is seeking a Commissioning Specialist to assist with projects related to commissioning mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in new construction, renovation, and existing building projects.
We are open to a range of experience levels, from recent college graduates with engineering/construction or similar technology degrees.
Job Description
This position is an individual contributor role that does not include management of direct reports but will require collaboration with other WBS staff.
This is a full-time position based in Charleston, SC. Candidate is expected to regularly travel to projects up to a 4-hour drive radius of Charleston, SC (most projects are closer), including overnight trips 1-3 times per month on average.
Facility Commissioning
The candidate will assist in providing the following services and support:
- Successful execution and implementation of building commissioning and retro-commissioning projects
- Client meetings demonstrating appropriate level of technical understanding of commissioning process
- Interface with members of the design and construction teams
- Edit Commissioning Plans, technical Specifications and Owner’s Project Requirements
- Conduct design and submittal reviews
- Conduct site visits during construction, log issues and track to resolution
- Create Pre-Functional Test Checklists
- Create and conduct Functional Performance Testing and verify test and balance activities.
- Compile Systems Manual and edit final Commissioning Reports
Qualifications
WBS recognizes that potential candidates may not have experience in all areas of service required for this job. WBS encourages candidates interested in the Sustainability Certification Administration and/or Energy Modeling service areas above to apply if they are open to training and development in the other service areas. These include EnergyStar, NetZero, Green Globes, and LEED type projects.
Requirements
- A degree or degree path in progress in architecture, building engineering, construction management, or a related field OR non-degree holders with ~3 years of project experience in similar areas.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Candidate must be able to provide their own transportation to and from project sites and will be reimbursed for mileage based on applicable GSA rates.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software systems.
- Job site work occasionally includes accessing roofs and mechanical areas via ladders and utility access walkways.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong background, either via education or in-field experience, in automation, systems design, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems engineering, design, and construction, with an extra preference for those with experience in control logic and programming for MEP systems.
- Maintains Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) from the AABC Commissioning Group, Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) from ASHRAE, Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), or similar commissioning-specific accreditations.
- Attained prior experience working with Siemens, JCI, Harris Integrated Solutions, or Tridium building automation systems
- Attained prior experience with mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems design and construction.
While not required for this role, preference will be given to candidates with experience in other WBS service offerings, including but not limited to:
- Mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing systems design
- LEED, Green Globes, Living Building Challenge, WELL, or FitWel sustainability certification administration and support
- Energy Modeling
- Heat Load Calculations
- Indoor Air Quality Testing
- Facility Energy Management and/or Energy Auditing
Salary and Benefits
$55,000-70,000/year for full time employment. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
