POSITION: Art Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position requires individual to direct and evaluate the learning experiences of students in both curricular and extracurricular activities in the field of art.
DUTIES:
1. Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the district and state philosophy, goals, and objectives.
2. Develop purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies, engage students, and maximize time on task.
3. Employ a variety of effective teaching strategies.
4. Utilize relevant technology in lessons.
5. Create a classroom environment and lessons that are grade level appropriate to the Principles of Design and Elements of Art as listed in the Richmond County Schools Curriculum guide.
6. Student artwork is on display in the classroom and in other appropriate spaces in the school.
7. Examples of artists and art works from many historical periods, places and cultures are displayed in the art room and in other appropriate spaces in the school.
8. Assume responsibility for carrying out the policies, rules, and regulations of Richmond County Schools and other responsibilities as directed by the principal and program director.
9. Particular types of media or materials in art instruction may call for a variance from the normal dress policy. Such instances should be the exception rather than the rule. Such dress should still be in compliance with the variations allowed by the district professional dress code.
10. Foster effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
11. Provide for the care and protection of school property.
12. Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the total school program.
13. Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students
14. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the principal.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Certificates & Licenses Must have or be qualified to hold a NC
teaching license in Art (K-12).
Continuing Educ./Training Maintain Licensure & CEUs
Employment will require extensive background check.
