Controls Engineer Job Responsibilities
- Design, install, troubleshoot, and support automation controls systems (PLC/HMI/Servo)
- Program and modify Siemens TIA Portal, DCS, and other logic-based systems
- Support new equipment installations, upgrades, and system integrations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve machine performance and uptime
- Provide technical leadership, training, and development for maintenance technicians
- Develop documentation, LOTO procedures, and equipment guides
- Lead or support plant-wide controls and automation projects from concept to completion
- Maintain familiarity with the latest controls tech, safety standards, and industry best practices
Controls Engineer Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred (Electrical or related field)
- 3–5 years of experience in a controls/automation engineer role
- Proficient with Siemens TIA Portal and industrial controls software
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, drives, and sensor technologies
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and troubleshooting methodology
- Ability to lead and coach cross-functional technical teams
- Excellent project management and documentation skills
- Comfortable supporting 24/7 operations as needed (off-hours availability may be required
