ABOUT YMCA INTERNSHIPS:
YMCA Interns help further the work and mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, all with the goal of loving people the way Christ has loved us. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and launch a volunteer homework assistance/tutoring program.
- Create the framework and plans for the homework assistance program, including program logistics, volunteer needs and expectations, and timeline.
- Assist with the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers.
- Assist in the planning and promotion of Holiday Camp programs.
- Assess existing programs and identify opportunities for improvement in light of the YMCA’s mission and goals. Implement new ideas as agreed upon with the Childcare Director.
- Assist with risk management initiatives (i.e., audits and trainings) and the implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
- Build authentic relationships with children, parents, and YMCA members to create a positive and welcoming environment.
- Learn about program administration, scheduling, and operational logistics.
INTERNSHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
- Hands-on learning experience involving program development, leading programs across multiple partner sites, volunteer and staff recruitment and development, and direct youth engagement.
- Exposure to program planning, coordination, and leadership development.
- Opportunity to complete a final project, such as the creation and implementation of the homework assistance program or presenting a business plan to enhance program quality and participation.

- It is the student’s responsibility to verify and obtain any necessary prior approval from their educational institution before beginning the internship.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Reports to: Powdersville Childcare Director
- Location: Powdersville YMCA with travel to the Anderson One school sites
- Duration: 12-16 weeks (one semester or based on school curriculum requirements).
- Hours: 10-15 hours per week, depending on internship criteria and availability.
- Compensation: $10.00/hr (includes a free YMCA membership and discounts on YMCA programs).
