ABOUT YMCA INTERNSHIPS:
YMCA Interns help further the work and mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, all with the goal of loving people the way Christ has loved us. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in the planning and execution of youth and adult seasonal sports programs to fulfill the YMCA’s mission.
- Create rosters and schedule practices and games.
- Plan program events such as end-of-season tournaments and fun days.
- Understand league rules and learn the reasoning behind program decisions.
- Assist with the recruitment, training, and supervision of officials and volunteers.
- Provide supervision for youth and adult sports league practices, games, and tournaments.
- Build authentic relationships with children, parents, and YMCA members to create a positive and welcoming environment.
- Develop and implement marketing materials to promote programs.
- Maintain program facilities and equipment to ensure a safe, high-quality experience for all.
- Learn about program administration, scheduling, and operational logistics.
INTERNSHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
- Hands-on learning experience involving leading multiple sports programs at once, volunteer and staff development, and direct youth engagement.
- Exposure to program planning, coordination, and leadership development.
- Opportunity to complete a final project, such as creating and implementing a player clinic or presenting a business plan to enhance program quality and participation.

IS THIS THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU?
- You love sports and can teach basic skills and fundamentals.
- You have experience working with youth and are passionate about mentorship.
- You’re interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes management of sports programming.
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
- It is the student’s responsibility to verify and obtain any necessary prior approval from their educational institution before beginning the internship.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Reports to: Association Sports Director
- Location: Travels between Easley, Pickens and Powdersville YMCAs
- Duration: 12-16 weeks (one semester or based on school curriculum requirements).
- Hours: 10-15 hours per week, depending on internship criteria and availability.
- Compensation: $10.00/hr (includes a free YMCA membership and discounts on YMCA programs).
