Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineer role based in Gray Court, SC. The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for ultra-high vacuum and precision optics applications, using CAD tools and sound engineering principles. Daily responsibilities include creating detailed drawings and specifications, performing tolerance analyses, and collaborating with manufacturing, quality, and sales teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements.

The role involves supporting research and development initiatives, testing prototypes, troubleshooting product issues, and implementing design improvements based on data and customer feedback. The Mechanical Engineer will also contribute to project planning, documentation, and continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.

This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys seeing designs move from concept to production and wants to work directly with highly specialized technologies, manufacturing processes, and customer-driven engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering principles with experience applying them to product design and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in machine design, including materials selection, tolerance stack-ups, and mechanical assembly design.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assembly design, and detailed drawing creation.
  • Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in project management, including planning tasks, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and tracking timelines and deliverables.
  • Background in Research and Development (R&D), including prototyping, testing, analyzing results, and iterating designs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to document work clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Experience with vacuum systems, precision optics, ceramics, ceramic-to-metal sealing technologies, hermetic packaging, or metal-sealed components is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, brazing, welding, and design-for-manufacturability principles is beneficial.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems, electronic packaging, or electromechanical product design is a plus.
  • Candidates who enjoy working directly with products, manufacturing teams, and real-world engineering challenges will thrive in this role.

Why Join MPF Products?

  • Work on products used by some of the world’s most advanced technology companies and research organizations.
  • Collaborate with Fortune 500 customers and National Laboratories on highly specialized engineering challenges.
  • Gain exposure to advanced technologies including ultra-high vacuum systems, ceramic-to-metal sealing, precision optics, and hermetic packaging.
  • Join a growing company that offers career advancement opportunities and the ability to make a meaningful impact.
  • Enjoy a hands-on engineering environment where your ideas can move quickly from concept to production.
