Merrick’s summer internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience for students. Designed as a shorter-term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they’re learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day-to-day life at an employee-owned company.

The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2027.

The Commissioning Intern will:

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities for building systems such as HVAC, building automation, laboratory controls, plumbing, and emergency power systems.
  • Work closely with experienced commissioning professionals and project teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and facility stakeholders.
  • Gain exposure to the full commissioning lifecycle of complex, high-stakes laboratory environments.
  • Develop hands-on experience with building systems and controls that are essential for maintaining biosafety and containment.
  • Benefit from direct mentorship by experienced commissioning professionals with deep expertise in life sciences and critical facilities.
  • Build an understanding of key industry standards such as ASHRAE Guideline 0, and the CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL).

This experience will provide a strong foundation for future career paths in building commissioning, MEP engineering, and facility operations.
