Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Intern – Health, Safety, and Environmental for Summer 2026. The position is based in Batesburg, SC.

We’re looking for eligible students to join Hitachi Rail! Hiring for May 2026 through August 2026.
Accountabilities
- The student will have the opportunity to make an impact in Health, Safety and Environmental, (HSE) department at the center of a complex electrical and mechanical manufacturing site playing a key role in revitalizing and updating our current safety programs, while also engaging with employees in the field to refine safety procedures
- This role will assist in a variety of projects, and will have exposure to the core processes of the business, including process improvement, safety analysis, environmental monitoring, troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities
- this position will work in a cross-functional team environment to include engineering and maintenance skills
- Work daily with the HSE Manager and others on the management team
- Participate in activities related to manufacturing projects including continuous improvement and process efficiency
- Daily/weekly monitoring and improvements to safety reporting systems
- Assist HSE, Process Engineering, and supervisors with job safety analysis and other procedural improvements
- Take an active part in the execution of development projects
- Develop and integrate documentation processes to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Provide project status updates as required
- Works under close supervision of the HSE Manager
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Must be pursuing a degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or engineering disciplines or related field.
- Current Junior or Senior at a 4-year university with a graduation date between December 2026 and December 2027

Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite
Languages:
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
