The Civil Engineer supports the planning, design, and construction of municipal and public infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway systems. This position involves applying engineering principles to develop practical design solutions, prepare plans and calculations, coordinate with municipalities and regulatory agencies, and assist with construction administration. The Civil Engineer contributes to improving community infrastructure through technical expertise, collaboration, and attention to detail. 

Essential Functions: Functions:

  • Prepare and review plans, specifications, and calculations for municipal and public works projects with review from a supervisor, including water supply, treatment, distribution, and storage systems; sanitary sewer collection and conveyance systems; stormwater management; and roadway improvements.
  • Utilize design software, computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD), and other tools to develop and document design solutions.
  • Assist municipalities and clients with plan reviews, project planning, and coordination with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
  • Support the preparation of funding applications, technical reports, studies, and grant documentation related to infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, perform quantity and cost estimates, and provide technical recommendations under supervision.
  • Perform construction administration tasks, including procurement and submittals, pay requisitions, construction change orders, and funding disbursement requests.
  • Coordinate project permitting activities with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to ensure successful project completion.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Civil and Municipal Engineering Principles. Fundamental understanding of civil and municipal engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Infrastructure Design and Construction. Working knowledge of water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway design methods and construction processes.
  • Permitting and Regulatory Compliance. Familiarity with permitting procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Project Management Concepts. General understanding of project management principles.
  • Design and Drafting Software. Proficiency with AutoCAD and related design or drafting software; familiarity with Civil 3D preferred.
  • Sustainable Design Practices. Awareness of sustainable design approaches and emerging trends in public infrastructure development.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical data.
  • Technical Documentation and Design. Proficiency in preparing clear, accurate, and complete engineering drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Communication and Collaboration. Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with clients, team members, and regulatory agencies.
  • Organization and Time Management. Organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Software Proficiency. Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other standard business applications.
  • Engineering Judgment and Innovation. Ability to apply engineering judgment to develop practical and innovative design solutions.
  • Teamwork and Independence. Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to Detail. Ability to maintain attention to detail while managing multiple project components.
  • Adaptability and Performance. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Professional Integrity and Quality. Commitment to professional integrity, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
  • Client and Public Relations. Ability to represent the firm positively and professionally in interactions with clients, contractors, and the public.
