Summer Scholars is an academic-based summer camp experience on Clemson University’s campus that provides an opportunity for rising 7th through 12th-grade campers to engage in exciting academic activities while learning what Clemson has to offer them as students. Classes are taught by Clemson faculty during the day, and campers enjoy afternoon and evening programming facilitated by counselors. The role of the counselor is to lead, mentor, and supervise campers in all areas of summer camp programming and perform duties that are required by the Camp Director. Principal Duties/Essential Functions:
· Lead campers in daily scheduled programs and activities, including morning and evening room checks, walk across campus, meals in the dining hall, campus tours, team building initiatives, recreational activities, and wrap-up events.
· Serve as a positive mentor and guide for campers by demonstrating positive and productive behavior, modeling and maintaining clear expectations, and serving as a guide for the Clemson experience while creating and maintaining positive relationships with campers.
· Be actively involved in all program activities whether planned and facilitated by counselor staff or leadership team. This includes afternoon and evening scheduled activities and any other impromptu activity times.
· Be actively involved in all instructional activities by participating in class times and assisting professors in daily lessons and activities as needed.
· Maintain and engage in proper supervision of all campers by residing in the residence hall and attending to campers overnight and while around campus.
· Directly supervise campers while involved in camp activities to ensure a safe and productive camp environment.
· Assist with routine facility supervision and upkeep.
· Assist with camp check-in and check-out days.
· Adhere to all University and Summer Scholars policies including the current COVID-19 policy both on and off campus.
· Attend required pre-camp training.
· Any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Leadership Team.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must have a high school diploma.
· Working toward a college degree at Clemson University.
· Adaptable and a team player
· Positive Attitude
· Active listener with strong communication skills
· Must already have or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification (certification training provided).
Additional Qualifications:
· Residential camp, child-care, or residential assistant experience appreciated.
· Prior leadership experience on or off campus.
· Education, Psychology, and PRTM majors are appreciated but not required.
· Previously attended Summer Scholars or another camp program.
· Lifeguard Certification
