Thanks to the generosity of the late Robert H Brooks, the institute began in the 1990s with a founding emphasis on motorsports engineering, sports communication, sports management and sports marketing. Today, the institute supports research and scholarships as well as Legacy Professors named for Brooks son and three colleagues who died in a 1993 plane crash. It is an effort that is growing and evolving with the addition of research seed grants, a lecture series and other initiatives.
The Robert H. Brooks Sports Science Institute is seeking a part-time writer/editor to assist Institute staff in developing stories (blog posts and feature pieces) spotlighting sports science faculty, staff, students and activities at Clemson.
The writer/editor will work directly with the director, assistant director and intern team to interview, record, interpret and write stories for the Institute’s Sports Insight blog, website, social pages and, potentially, Clemson News feed.
This intern will contribute to a communications calendar for the semester, arrange interviews with Clemson stakeholders, and write content to be turned into publishable pieces throughout the semester.
The writer/editor will also be responsible for monitoring the content of our campus partners for anything sports science related to re-share online and in reports.
Applicants must have a range of writing experience, be personable and flexible, and be able to meet deadlines.
Applicants requested to interview should plan to produce writing samples for review.
Eligibility requirements: UPIC interns must be enrolled, matriculating, full-time (12+ credit hours for part-time interns) Clemson University undergraduate students in good academic standing and non-academic alert status (minimum cumulative Clemson GPA of 2.0) and in good status with the UPIC program. Once selected, to participate in the UPIC Program, student interns must enroll in the required INT course ($200 course fee) and complete hiring paperwork with the UPIC office. Interns cannot begin working until the hiring process is complete.
