The department of communications and marketing disseminates external and internal communications for the College of Science Join our team as a writer, helping the College of Science marketing team create content.
As a writer you will:
- Write assigned stories on science student and faculty scholarly and research accomplishments for dissemination in college and campus-wide communications.
- Schedule and conduct interviews for compiling story content.
- Assist communications team in drafting written content for website, social media, marketing materials and emails as needed.
The intern will work directly for the Communications and Marketing Science Writer and spend a considerable time with the Social Media Producer, Online and Print Coordinator and our Director of Communications and Marketing.
Work Hours: Student may set hours each semester. These hours usually fall between 9 am and 5 pm M-F, but there is considerable flexibility in this schedule.
Skills: The ideal student has strong written and verbal communications skills, a strong research ability and is deadline oriented.
The intern must identify news angles with assistance from science communications team, be confident to interview professors and students and ask questions and have the ability to produce professional written correspondence.
Story requests and communication with story subjects are typically conducted through email and require timely, thorough and professional responses.
Benefits: Upon completion of the semester, the student will have gained materials for a portfolio and extensive knowledge on how to operate in a professional environment, both within and outside the university setting.
The intern will be trained on branding guidelines.
The intern will have the opportunity to write stories for various platforms.
The intern will gain experience communicating with internal clients, as well as professionals in print design, web design, and journalism.
Upon completion of the semester, the student will have gained materials for a portfolio.
Eligibility requirements: UPIC interns must be enrolled, matriculating, full-time (12+ credit hours for part time interns) Clemson University undergraduate students in good academic standing and non-academic alert status (minimum cumulative Clemson GPA of 2.0) and in good status with the UPIC program.
Once selected; in order to participate in the UPIC Program, student interns must enroll in the required INT course ($200 course fee) and complete hiring paperwork with the UPIC office.
Interns cannot begin working until the hiring process is complete.
