This position will be located on the Clemson Campus with occasional travel to coastal South Carolina. In this position, you will support a graduate student in analyzing social survey and environmental data to contribute to the development of a decision support tool for optimizing rice field and waterfowl management under various climate change scenarios.
This research aims to provide land managers, conservationists, and policymakers with valuable insights to enhance habitat conservation, water resource allocation, and adaptive management strategies in response to shifting environmental conditions.
The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in geospatial analysis and spatial modeling, with a particular focus on utilizing Google Earth Engine and ArcGIS Pro for land use and land cover mapping.
The intern will be responsible for processing remote sensing data, computing vegetation indices, and generating landscape and hydrological metrics to assess habitat suitability and water availability within managed wetland and agricultural systems.
This work will involve integrating multiple spatial datasets, including satellite imagery, hydrological models, and survey responses from stakeholders, to generate meaningful analyses that inform decision-making.
Given the extensive dataset, high computational demands, and complexity of modeling tasks, the intern will receive specialized training in relevant techniques.
They will gain hands-on experience with cloud-based computing in Google Earth Engine, as well as analysis in ArcGIS Pro, and R, depending on their existing skill set and project needs.
Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about climate resilience planning, wetland ecosystem services, and the intersection of agricultural and wildlife management.
This position is an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in environmental data science, conservation technology, and applied ecology.
