Internship & Job Search Tips
- Consult our Resume and CV Packets to view guidelines for standard practices within the United States. Note that in many countries, a “CV” is equivalent to what the United States refers to as a resume.
- Tailor your resume, CV, and cover letter for each position to meet keyword requirements set by applicant tracking systems and demonstrate how your skills and experience transfer to the position.
- Consult our Interview Packet for strategies on how to effectively share examples of your knowledge and skills and view common interview questions.
- Be confident and eager in marketing your qualifications for the position.
- Treat everyone you meet with respect, regardless of their title or level in the company.
- Arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to the interview time.
- Follow up by email one to two weeks from applying or after the time range communicated by the company. Limit yourself to two follow-up attempts.
Curricular practical training (CPT) is defined as alternative work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required internship or practicum offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school. CPT is available to F-1 students who have been lawfully enrolled on a full-time basis for at least one academic year. During the period of CPT, the student must continue to maintain a full course of study in F-1 status unless authorized for a reduced course load or you are approved for a vacation term.
Required Documents for CCPD Advisor Review and Signature
1. IS-130 CPT Form – Sections 1 and 2 must be completed before a CCPD adviser can accept and verify the form in Section 3.
2. Offer Letter – Your offer letter should appear on company letterhead and include your offer date and salary information.
A CCPD advisor will contact you via email within two business days to provide your next steps. It may take up to two business days to receive your signed form once all documents are correctly submitted.
Please note that new documentation needs to be submitted for each semester enrolled in an INT course. Per INT Course policy, only one CPT request may be made for one internship each semester. Please speak to the course instructor with any questions.
