Finish LineWhat do you mean I have to find a job after college? JUNIOR and SENIOR YEAR

It doesn’t matter if you are a first semester freshman, sophomore, junior or senior about to graduate, at some point in your life you have wondered what you’re going to do when you grow-up. Some students already have it all together. When they were five they picked their ideal college and by fifteen had their first internship. On the other side of the spectrum are the students that are convinced that if they constantly play Rock Band and have the most friends on Facebook, that graduation will never come and with that the impending doom of their first job. For those of you in the middle: searching for the right major that will lead to a job you will enjoy, there are some basic things that you can do while in college to help you along your career path.

Junior Year: You might think this year is all about upper-lever classes and turning twenty-one but it’s not. The junior year is all about internship and preparing for the job search. The first thing that you need to do is fine tune your resume. Have it critiqued by someone at the career center and a person in your field of study. It is best to start learning how to build your network, utilize Clemsonjoblink and attend the career fair. Remember there are multiple ways to find an internship so try different things and give yourself as much opportunity as possible.

Senior Year: It is here! You are buying your cap and gown, sending out your announcements and watching the graduation cards and checks roll in. But when that college loan comes due or the graduation checks run out, you want to have a full-time job already secured. You can do this by updating your resume, utilizing Clemsonjoblink, attending the career fair and tapping into your network. Most likely you are going to have to go through an interview or two so signing-up for a mock interview at the career center is a great way to put your best foot forward. Always consider using multiple job search techniques and broadening your search criteria. You will never know if the job of your dreams is in Texas if you are only searching in South Carolina.

Just remember the perfect job isn’t ready made. Utilize your time in school to give you the best advantage possible to find what you are looking for upon graduation.
