It's crunch time: how to start a job search
A successful job search means matching YOU with a JOB, right? So, let's take it in steps.
Start with YOU
Prepare your job search material (resume and cover letter). See the career center's help page here: http://career.clemson.edu/students/applying/resumes/index.php and drop in for a critique from 9am to noon or 1:30 to 4pm weekdays. Brainstorm your preferred types of job function/employers/industries/locations
Now, the JOB
Develop a comprehensive list of resources where open jobs in your field are posted. Consider:
- ClemsonJobLink (http://career.clemson.edu/clemsonjoblink/)
- Register with one on-line job board (like Monster.com) but don’t limit your search to that site. The more resources you use, the better your search will be
- Find professional associations in your field and check their job listings
- Look at major newspapers in your preferred geographic area
Work on your job search each week as if you were studying for an exam. Schedule several hours each week to search for open positions, update application materials, follow-up with employers, network, and generate more job leads.

Remember, the type of opportunities you will have will be dictated by your interests, your flexibility, your effort and (finally) your major.
