Reference Files (Placement Files)

Students interested in the education/teaching profession as well as any other field may wish to create a reference file (placement file). A reference file (placement file) is a collection of documents that were historically held together for students via hard copy in one location. This service is now established and maintained on-line for a more resourceful and efficient process through a partnership with ReferenceNow. The creation of this file allows Educational Career Services Office and the Career Center to assist students in their search for employment opportunities.

What is included in a Reference File (Placement File)?

Your resume, transcripts, test scores/certifications, references and even writing samples can be included in the Reference File (Placement File).

Resume

A copy of the student's resume/curriculum vitae detailing any teaching experience as well as other experiences where valuable skills were obtained is included in the file.

Transcript

A copy of the student's transcript indicating class performance and degree awarded (if applicable) is included in the file. Per a written request by students, the Educational Career Services Office can forward an in-house copy of the transcripts to be scanned into the on-line file. Or students can obtain an official copy of their transcripts for a fee from the Records & Registration Office (102 Sikes Hall, 864-656-7121)

Other College/University Transcripts

A copy of any transcripts from other institutions where classes/transfer courses were taken can be part of the file.

Test Scores

A copy of national/state test scores or certifications is generally included in the file. These may include: NTE, PKE, EEE and specialty area scores. NTE and EEE scores can also be retrieved by the Educational Career Services Office for a fee of $5.00.

Recommendation/Reference Letters

Letters from various sources including (but not limited to) cooperating teachers, student teaching college supervisors, principles, professors and other teachers with whom the student has interacted can be part of the reference file (placement file).
