When is the best time to come on-campus for recruiting? To avoid busy times in the semester for students, the best times to come for on-campus recruiting are in-between a few weeks after the beginning of the semester and a few weeks before the end of the semester. In the fall, starting around the third week in September until the end of October are the primetimes to come on-campus for recruiting. During the spring, starting after the career fair until the end of March are the best times for students’ schedules..
We haven’t received as many applicants as we would like. What can we do?
- First, review your job description and criteria.
- By selecting applicants based on GPA, you may miss out on interviewing some great candidates.
- Consider expanding your criteria to include additional majors who may possess similar skills.
- Include complete information in the job description (salary, locations, job duties)
- Stay in touch with your applicants about any information sessions and interview date/time. Provide candidates with complete information about the application process.
- If interviewing on campus, meet your deadlines by submitting a job description early, and making pre-select decisions on time.
- Contact student organizations and academic departments to further advertise your opportunities.
How can my company get more exposure on campus?
Some of the best ways to seek exposure: post jobs, seek interns, come on-campus to interview students, attend career fairs, and offer to present to student organizations. If you are not able to travel, there are other ways such as: participate in social networking as your organization allows, such as Facebook, Blogs, LinkedIn, and YouTube videos on your website. This way a student can learn not only what your company does, but what it is like to work there. Many employers still like to present Information Sessions about their organization, which is fine, but not as productive as in years past.
