Student Learning Outcomes

Student affairs professionals have a clear responsibility to ensure that our campus is a true learning community committed to providing transformative educational experiences for all students. The Clemson University Division of Student Affairs has adopted four student learning outcomes:

  • Self-Knowledge
  • Leadership and Communication
  • Social Responsibility
  • Life Skills Application

Each department within the Division of Student Affairs has identified specific student learning outcomes to address. The student learning outcomes for the Michelin Career Center are:

Leadership and Communication:

  • As a result of participating in Career Center programs and services, students will be able to market their education, skills and experience to achieve lifelong career success.

Life Skills Application:

  • As a result of participating in Career Center programs and services, students will be able to take ownership of their career direction and independently manage their career implementation.
    • Demonstrated by 100% of internship students named an occupation or employer of interest
    • Demonstrated by 93% of students reported researching companies prior to the career fair

Self Knowledge:

  • As a result of participating in Career Center programs and services, students will be able to articulate realistic self-appraisal based on assessments of values, skills and abilities.
    • Demonstrated by 95% of CU101 participants understood their career personality
    • Demonstrated by 81% of Discover users matched their career personality to a career cluster
    • Demonstrated by employer ratings of 4.06 on a 5 pt scale that career fair attendees “articulated their skills, interests, and work values”
  • As a result of participating in Career Center programs and services, students will be able to make effective career choices based on realistic self-appraisals and comprehension of the world of work.
    • Demonstrated by 96% of CU101 participants matched their career personality with a career choice
    • Demonstrated by 100% of internship students identified 3 skills they gained from the internship
    • Demonstrated by 81% of Discover users matched their career personality with a potential major
    • Demonstrated by employer ratings of 3.73 on a 5 pt scale that career fair attendees “articulated their career goals”
  • As a result of participating in Career Center programs and services, students will be able to articulate personal, work & lifestyle values and apply identified values in career decisions
    • Demonstrated by 81% of Discover users identified their work values. 52% explained how their work values affect their career choice.
    • Demonstrated by 98% of career fair participants who responded to a survey identified their work values. 63% named an employer that meets those values.
